One of the Triad’s most notable golf tournaments is set to tee off for the 10th consecutive year.
The Blanton Vogler Memorial Golf Tournament is set for May 9 at the legendary Tanglewood Park in Clemmons NC.
The tournament is in honor of Blanton Vogler, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 12 and passed away unexpectedly in 2004. Vogler’s friends partnered with the JDRF Piedmont Triad Chapter to organize the tournament. It is the tournament’s hope that the money raised from the event will help to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. The group has turned the small gathering of friends to a large group of people from all over.
Registration is set for 11:30 a.m., and the Captain’s Choice tournament will begin at 1:30 p.m., with a shotgun start.
Golfers will play half of the 18-hole tournament on Tanglewood’s Reynolds course, and then the other half on Tanglewood’s PGA course. The tournament is widely considered one of the most well run tournaments in the area with a lot of free items and a great group of people.
After the tournament, golfers are invited to attend the After-Party at The Red Barn at Tanglewood. With live entertainment, a silent auction and a reverse raffle, the party will begin at 6:30 p.m., with food, wine and beer provided.
A minimum $25 donation to JDRF at the door will get non-golfers into the party. Organizers invite you to bring all your friends to have a good time and help raise money for a cause.
To register for the tournament, contact JDRF at 336-373-1768 or mfoster@jdrf.org. Since this is a popular event, early registration is recommended with all entries needing to be received by May 1.
