The 18th Annual Pine Needles Invitational

For the 18th year Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC will be hosting the Pine Needles Invitational this weekend, March 2-4. This two-man team 54-hole event attracts some of the top amateur golfers from around the country. Played on the famed Donald Ross courses, Pine Needles and Mid Pines, participants enjoy a weekend full of championship golf, fine dining, and entertainment.

Last year Scott Harvey and Brian Westveer, from Greensboro, NC and Charlotte, NC respectively, won the Open Division with scores of 63, 61 and 67 for a 191 total. Allen Barber and Charlie Green from Yorktown, VA and Tazewell, VA respectively teamed up to win the Senior Division with scores of 63-65-69 for a 197 total. With a full field for this year’s event, it should prove to be a weekend full of excellent golf and an exciting challenge to claim championship honors.

Pine Needles and Mid Pines Resort is owned by the legendary LPGA charter member, Peggy Kirk Bell and her family. Hosting two full-service hotels and accompanying championship Donald Ross golf courses, Pine Needles and Mid Pines have been a staple in the Sandhills area for over 50 years. Pine Needles was host of the 1996, 2001, and 2007 U.S. Women’s Open.
