For seven decades, the Wyndham Championship has been played in North Carolina, making it the state’s longest running professional golf event. Its lengthy history includes appearances by golf greats such as Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Davis Love III, and Rocco Mediate. This year, with its return to Sedgefield Country Club, one of the most prestigious Greensboro Golf Courses, the Wyndham Championship will claim the distinction of being the only regular season event to take place on a course designed by Donald Ross. This year’s Wyndham Championship Golf tournament takes place from August 16 – 22, 2010, and will feature a variety of entertainment in addition to what is sure to be an exciting competition.

The Wyndham Championship Golf tournament will kick off on Monday, August 16, with the Kevin Harvick Foundation Pro-Am, presented by Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. This will take place at Sedgefield Country Club from 10 a.m. to noon. The following day, the pros will get a feel for the course during a practice round that will last all day, and BB&T will present a youth golf clinic from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Gillespie Park. Later in the evening, the invitation-only New Breed Logistics Pro-Am Pairings Party will liven up Grandover Resort Greensboro; immediately afterward, Kool & The Gang will perform at The Grandover Resort Greensboro NC. On Wednesday, August 18, The New Breed Logistics Pro-Am will take place, with morning tee times from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and afternoon tee times from noon to 2:00 p.m.

On Thursday the 19th, the pros will take to the course and go head to head against one another for the championship. The tournament will run from 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. After Saturday’s third round, those who have been invited can look forward to attending the Sponsor’s Party, which will feature recording artist Edwin McCain. The final round, which will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, will determine the winner who will then be presented with the Sam Snead Cup and prize money on the 18th Green.

A variety of tickets and ticket packages are available. For $100, spectators can purchase a Weekly Patron Badge or Ticket Book that is good for grounds admission for the entire week, and a Good-Any-Day Ticket will set you back just $35 and can be used for grounds admission any one day from Thursday through Sunday. Daily tickets are available for just $25 and are good for a specific day of the tournament, and folks who simply want to witness a practice round on Tuesday or Wednesday can do so for a mere $15. Spectators 15 years old and younger can attend for free with a ticket-bearing adult. The proceeds from this event will go to support a variety of local organizations including Victory Junction Gang Camp, The International Civil Rights Center and Museum, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater High Point, the Autism Society of North Carolina, Goodwill Industries of Central North Carolina, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Central North America, and more.
