Wake County Junior Championship Hosted at Brand New Course

The newly constructed Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh NC is slated to host the very first Wake County Junior Golf Championship, an event sponsored by the Tarheel Golf Foundation. The event will take place December 12-13, 2009; entries are still open, however only the first 90 registrants will be accepted. Junior golfers ages 18 and under are allowed to participate and compete on the new, one-of-a-kind NC State Golf Course, the Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The New NC State Golf Course has received a multitude of press recently and is shaping up to become one of the most popular Raleigh Golf Courses, especially among NC State grads and alums. The Lonnie Poole Golf Course, the New NC State Golf course, is located on the campus of NC State University and was designed by legendary golf pro and course architect, Arnold Palmer. It is the Raleigh Golf Course that hosts the Wolfpack’s phenomenal men’s and women’s golf teams and the PGA accredited Professional Golf Management Program at NC State University, which has one of the top ranked turf grass management programs in the entire nation. A course that will challenge every player while showcasing their skills, the Lonnie Poole Golf Course will continue to help both teams excel in their divisions. However, it is not like either team needs much improvement. The school’s NCAA Division I Men’s Golf team is ranked in the Top 20 in the country and includes one outstanding team member, the 2009 NCAA Individual Champion, Matt Hill. Likewise, the Lady Wolfpack Golf Team enjoys their fair share of wins.

Based out of Raleigh North Carolina, the Tarheel Golf Foundation is an NC Golf foundation that counts a membership of more than 500 junior golfers. It sponsors events in the form of nationally ranked golf tournaments for members that are looking to build their professional golf experience and attain golf scholarships for college. The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour runs September through May, and all of the fantastic events are within an hour’s drive of the Raleigh Durham Airport.
