No one expected South African Charl Schwartzel to win yesterdays Masters tournament, but that is exactly what he did yesterday as he made Masters history when he closed with four straight birdies. Augusta National was roaring after yesterdays tourney which began with Tiger Woods making a full throttle come back early. Sadly, crowed favorite, Rory McIlroy also seemed to come up short. That does not mean that yesterday was without its fair share of leads and upsets; at various points, eight different players were on board to win.
Those in the crowd and the press hounds have all expressed amazement and delight for Schwartzel’s big win. The 26 year old South African won yesterday on the 50th anniversary that Gary Player, another South African, became the first international winner at the Masters. Player tweeted:, “I am absolutely delighted for Charl and South Africa”.
