Hoadley Wins Qualifier for U.S. Men’s Amateur

GREENSBORO – Recent Union Pines High School grad, Robert Hoadley qualified last week for the 2009 U.S. Men’s Amateur Public Links Championship, winning a sectional qualifier at Bryan Park Golf Club.

Hoadley, who won the NCHSAA 3-A medalist golf title both last month and two years ago, won Monday’s qualifier at Bryan Park to earn a spot in the 156-person field at the Publinx championship. He fired a two-round total of 137 to win the qualifier by five strokes. The top four players made to the APL.

The tournament will be held July 13-18 at the University of Oklahoma’s Jimmy Austin Golf Club in Norman, Okla. Bryan Park, ironically, will be the host of next year’s U.S. Men’s Amateur Public Links Championship.

Hoadley, who will play his college golf at UNC-Greensboro, will also be in the field at the prestigious North & South Amateur Golf Championship being played at Pinehurst No. 2 next week.
