WCU athletics announce 2014 Catamount Golf Tour

Western Carolina Athletics and the Catamount Club have again partnered with Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort for the seventh installment of the Catamount Golf Tour. The six-event tour spans six total months and includes many highly anticipated golf tournaments.

The schedule runs from early April through late September with five stops across North Carolina and one in the Upstate of South Carolina. The 2014 Catamount Golf Tour tees off on Saturday, April 5 with the Catamount Shootout hosted at the Marion Lake Club in Nebo, NC, and concludes with the Upstate Classic in Greenville, SC, at The Preserve at Verdae on Friday, Sept. 26.

Stops along the way include The Metrolina Open at the Warrior Golf Club in China Grove, N.C, on Friday, May 16; the Catamount Football Classic at the Waynesville Inn on Wednesday, June 4; the WCU/Hayesville Golf Outing at The Ridges Golf Club in Hayesville, NC, on Friday, July 12; and the 10th-annual Bob Waters Memorial at the Maggie Valley Club in Maggie Valley, NC, on Friday, Sept. 5, a day before the Catamount football team’s home opener against Brevard College.

An added wrinkle to this season’s golf tour stops is the WCU Staff “5th Player Auction.” As the golfers make their way to their carts for the tournament “Welcome and Rules” announcements, they will have an opportunity to participate in a mini Live Auction. All WCU coaches and staff members on hand will be “on the auction block” to aid the four-player teams throughout that specific tournament. In short, each player of the foursome could chip in a minimum of $25 apiece for the right to have a fifth player for the day. Bidding for the WCU staff “5th Player” will begin at $100.

The Catamount Golf Tour was established in 2008 to help organize the different golf tournaments orchestrated by WCU’s alumni and supporters. The events are great opportunities to rally alumni and fans and allowing interaction with various Catamount coaches and staff members. All proceeds from the six golf tournaments directly benefit the WCU student-athlete scholarships.
