2010 Brother-Brother National Tournament to Take Place in May

Those who live in the great state of North Carolina and play North Carolina Golf on a regular basis can attest to the fact that there are a Number of Golf Courses in North Carolina. However, those who prefer the Golf Courses in Outer Banks North Carolina often like to take the short trip to South Carolina to enjoy warmer temperatures and a change of scenery. For them, Golf Courses Hilton Head are often a hit, and this year, the 2010 Brother-Brother National Championship is taking place at Bluffton South Carolina’s Old South Golf Links on Hilton Head Island. This special tournament is designed to give biological brothers the chance to bond over a fun, 36-hole tournament.

Scheduled to take place May 13-15, this event is currently in its 18th year. The popular tournament includes two divisions of play, team low net and loss gross, but the main draw for participants is that it gives brothers the opportunity to spend 3 days enjoying each other’s company. Both brothers who are extremely close and those who rarely spend time together can benefit from the quality interaction they will enjoy during the Brother-Brother Championship. On May 13th, the brothers will gather to practice on the links at Old South, after which they will enjoy some more togetherness during the pairings party, which includes such festivities as golf competitions and an open bar. On May 14th, the games will begin and the brothers will spend their first day competing against other two-man teams of blood brothers. Sunday, May 15th, will be the final day of the tournament, which will conclude with an awards banquet at the scenic Spanish Wells clubhouse. This fun-filled tournament maintains an air of unpredictability, as tensions between brothers can build, leading to the occasional fistfight. Another factor contributing to the uncertain atmosphere is the fact that participants are allowed to indulge in a beer or two—not just after tournament hours, but during their time on the links, as well.

Though brothers often show their solidarity by wearing similar outfits, it is clear that the bonds go far deeper than just matching socks or knickers. The real story behind the tournament is the memories that it creates and the relationships that are either strengthened or forged as a result of this long-running tournament. David Staley, the creator of the Brother-Brother Championship, can share countless stories of the impact that this tournament has had on the lives of participants. For example, a pair of brothers from North Carolina was so touched by the tournament that one brother was actually buried in his Brother-Brother t-shirt.

More than just a fun way to pass the time, this great tournament is an opportunity for brothers not only to spend time together, but to transform their relationships with one another. The memories made here will last a lifetime, and Old South Golf Links, a classic coastal course, is the perfect backdrop for such a powerful experience. Surrounded by pristine marshes, maritime forests, and well-maintained greens, this course was designed by Clyde Johnson, and has received numerous accolades over the years, including winning a Golf Digest 4-star “Places to Play” award.
