Arjun Atwal Wins The Wyndham By One Stroke at Sedgewick

Twenty four years have passed since a Monday qualifier actually won a PGA Tour event. Arjun Atwal achieved that feat Sunday at Sedgewick C.C. to win the 2010 Wyndham Championship. By winning this years event, Atwal earned $918,000 and a spot on the PGA tour next year.

Another milestone was reached as Atwal became the first Indian golfer to win any PGA Tour event. He shot a 3-under 67 in the final round to finish at 20-under 260 and earned more than twice the money in one day than he made all of last year.

“I told my caddie, ‘We’ve got nothing to lose this week. Just go out there and try and win it,'” Atwal said. “Guys are going to be out there trying to secure their FedExCup spots or whatever. We’ve got nothing. I don’t have a card. I don’t have anything. Just go out there and free-wheel it, and that’s what I did this week.”

Although Atwal is ineligible for the FedEx Cup, the win does point to a bright future for the 37 year old journeyman who gives a great deal of credit for his recent improvement to his friend and neighbor Tiger Woods.
