Want to see some of the best North Carolina golf course’s challenged by the world’s best? You will have your chance this year as the PGA Tour makes three tour stops in the Tar Heel state.
The professionals make their first stop in the state May 1-4 as they will tackle one of the toughest Charlotte NC golf courses for the Wells Fargo Championship. The event is slated to tee off at Quail Hollow Country Club, which just wrapped up major renovations following last year’s tournament.
Quail Hollow will also be the site of the 2017 US Open. It will become just the third venue in North Carolina to host the historic tournament joining 2014 host Pinehurst and 1976 host Tanglewood in Winston Salem NC.
Speaking of Pinehurst, the second stop for the PGA may be one of the most anticipated weeks in North Carolina golf history at the legendary course. Pinehurst No. 2 will draw national attention as they host the 2014 US Open. The tournament dates are set for June 9-15. However, it isn’t like your typical open.
The course will also host the women’s US Open the following week. It will be the first time that the same golf course has hosted the men and women’s US Opens in the same year, much less in back-to-back weeks.
PGA Tour golfers will wrap up their slate of three North Carolina tournaments at the Wyndham Championships. The Wyndham, which is slated for Aug. 14-17, is held at the fabled Sedgefield Country Club. Sedgefield is a Donald Ross design, like Pinehurst No. 2, and will challenge golfers from the opening tee shot.
