The Pinehurst NC area received big news on Friday afternoon as Pinehurst Resort announced a preliminary agreement to add National Golf Club to the legendary resort’s offerings.

Once the deal is finalized, the National, which is the only Jack Nicklaus Signature designed course in the Sandhills area, will be owned and managed by Pinehurst Resort.

“We’re very excited to add National Golf Club and its members to the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club family,” senior vice president of golf and club operations for Pinehurst Jay Biggs said in a statement. “National’s members soon will begin to enjoy all the amenities of Pinehurst Country Club, including the recently renovated clubhouse.”

Legendary No. 2 at Pinehurst will be the site of both the men and women’s U.S. Open in June. It will be the first time that any course has hosted both events in back-to-back weeks.
