It was a beautiful Sunday in North Carolina on Sunday. Here is a look at some of the things happening in the state’s golf scene this Monday morning.
Toronto Star features Pinehurst
Pinehurst NC is no stranger to receiving international attention, but it is still pretty awesome when they do. On Friday, the legendary course was the subject of a travel feature in the Toronto Star.
Ian Cruickshank of the Star traveled to the Pinehurst NC golf course, and then published a great look at the course. To read about his journey, click here. One note of interest is the package currently offered with the Evergreen Escape. For $169, you get accommodations, breakfast and golf, but if you want to play No. 2 it will cost you a little extra.
Pinehurst No. 2 will be the attention of the golfing world in June as they host back-to-back US Opens for the men and women for the first time in history.
Weather woes
This week could be a cold and snowy week for North Carolina golfers across the state. According to the Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Newport and Morehead City NC, the eastern part of the state could receive 4 to 8 inches of snow.
Even the beaches are receiving a forecast of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. At Kill Devil Hills, Monday’s high will be 53 with snow falling on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will see the mercury climb to around 35 on the coast. Charlotte could see an inch or two of snow this week, and Greensboro could see flurries in the next couple of days.
For the mountains, snow is in the forecast today and Tuesday with little or no accumulations expected. However, the major story will be the cold as the temperatures are not expected to break freezing until Thursday and that will be at 33.
Despite the woeful weather, the weekend is shaping up to be a mild one, but a soggy one. Stay tuned to your local weather as you plan your rounds this week!
