On Tuesday, July 6, 2010, two UNC Wilmington students, Ashley Tait and Sofia Hagsund, received the honor of being named to the National Golf Coaches Association’s All-American Scholar Team. The National Golf Coaches Association, is a professional organization that consists of over 400 women’s collegiate golf coaches at Division I, II, II, and NAIA institutions. Its purpose is to encourage young women not only to participate in collegiate golf, but to strive for academic excellence in conjunction with their athletic goals. Tait, a senior, and Hagsund, a sophomore, are the latest of a total of 26 Seahawks players to be named to the NGCA’s All-American Scholar Team during Cindy Ho’s eight-year stint as Head Coach.

Tait, who hails from Littleton, Colorado, is just the fourth player in the program’s history to make the All-American Scholar Team all four years of her college career. Having earned a 78.48 stroke average during the 10 events in which she participated this year, this talented player was a shoo-in. This marks Hagsund’s second year on the All-American Scholar Team. The native of Landskrona, Sweden, led the team with an average of 75.84 strokes during the 32 rounds she played.  In addition to stellar skills on the course and a demonstrated commitment to collegiate-level competition, it is necessary for all members of the All-American Scholar Team to have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Tait and Hagsund, both of whom are Business Administration majors at UNCW, have exceeded this standard. With exceptional athletic ability and academic achievements, it is clear that both of these young women have very bright futures ahead of them.
