U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship to take place at Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center

For many years Greensboro NC has been known as the “Tournament City” due to its central location and decades of playing host to various basketball tournaments that receive national notoriety. This year the “Tourney Town” will host some of the most anticipated amateur golfers in the world at the Champions Course at the Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center and further its distinction as the “Tournament City” From July 12-17, the amateurs will play the Champions Course for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. The championship tournament has been in existence for 85 years; however, this is the first year that it will be played at Greensboro’s Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center. Bryan Park Golf Course is one of three courses that will host a USGA tournament event this year. Some others that are coming up soon are the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship which will take place at The Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst from July 19-24th, and the U.S. Women’s Amateur which will take place at Charlotte Country Club from August 9-15th.

It’s a very exciting moment for the city; not only will some of the world’s most celebrated amateurs be on hand, but officials from the United States Golf Association will be, as well. Of course, city officials are expecting this event to create more interest in Greensboro NC and its amazing Greensboro NC Golf Courses. Those attending the event will be treated to a who’s who in amateur golf. Many of these players will go on to receive the fame and notoriety that comes with being a pro golfer. At the tournament expect to see standouts like Brandt Snedeker, Trevor Immelman, Tim Clark, D.J. Trahan, Brad Benjamin and Ryan Moore.

Monday the tournament begins with the stroke play first round. After the first round, the field is going to be pared to the low 64 scores for six rounds of match play. More than 3,181 contestants entered this year’s championship. It was open to amateurs who play public courses with a USGA handicap not exceeding 4.4. The match play rounds start Wednesday and finish on Saturday. Spectators are admitted free to watch the event at Bryan Park Golf Course in Greensboro.
